How to Make Rey’s Costume & Staff

A few days ago we made BB-8 to celebrate National Star Wars Day and we had Grace dressed as Rey, from the movie The Force Awakens, in the photoshoot. Because of that picture we go so many requests for us to show how we made it. This is so quick and easy. We literally threw it together and it turned out amazing!  This costume is perfect to make for your American Girl Rey doll or just to use as a costume for Halloween!

Materials Needed:

  • Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Hot Glue
  • 18″-24″ Wooden Dowel
  • Black Paint
  • Black or Brown Scrap Fabric (we used scrap vinyl)

TIPS-

  • If you have a longer piece of fabric you can cut one long strip and use it to cross in the front, connect on the side, and cross in the back again like the original Rey outfit.
  • The longer dowel can be found at craft stores like Michael’s and Hobby Lobby or Home Improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot.
  • If you cannot get a dowel for her staff, find a long stick and sand it down before doing the hot glue method.
