How to make American Girl Kitchen Chair

The kids and I have been adding a few things to our Thanksgiving Feast Scene and getting more dolls ready to join in on the fun.  Since the American Girl Table and Chairs set we are using only comes with two chairs, we had to add several of our handmade chairs to the mix.  It’s much like a normal Thanksgiving where so many family member come that you need to bust out the extra seating.  Anyways, in doing this for the dolls it hit me that we never posted our plans for the chairs! Sometimes we have so many crafts or builds going on at once, that once a project is complete we forget to publish the post.  Sounds crazy I know.  This post has been sitting here just waiting for the right time to be posted.  Better now than never right?!  We hope you enjoy these plans and make many chairs to accommodate all your dolls for all the big doll family gatherings!

Step 1:

Cut the seat out for the chair.

Step 2:

Make front of the chair by attaching the legs with the supports.

Step 3:

Add the back legs to the chair by nailing the side supports in place.  Use diagram below for reference.

Step 4:

Repeat step 3 for the remaining back leg and side supports.

Step 5:

Add the back supports as pictured below.  You will use wood glue and nail in from the sides.

Step 6:

Take the seat that you already cut and add it to the chair.  Use wood glue and you can also nail into place.  Just be sure to Spackle all the nail holes so it looks finished when you sand and paint it.

I really like these chairs. But could you make plans for a kitchen table to go with them?

How long did it take you to build these (once you had the plans figured out) and how much did these cost you to make? My dolls don’t have Chairs. The just sit on boxes with a shirt on top to cover them, but they always fall off because there’s nothing to lean their backs against.
