DIY American Girl Doll Refrigerator

This is one of my favorite pieces ever!  It might be because once it was done my kids just loved it and played with it for hours.  I love the look of it as well.  Most American Girl Doll refrigerators are the old fashion style, which is also cute, but I like the modern look.  This has the two swing out doors, pull out bottom freezer, and a veggie drawer!  I can’t get over how cool this turned out!  Don’t underestimate how important this piece is for your collection.  My fridge looks pretty bare now, but just wait until I start adding food!  This is just the start of the American Girl Doll Kitchen Collection.  Stay tuned for further pieces!

Tools:

Tape Measure

Miter Saw or Circular Saw

Table Saw

Drill

Hearing Protection

Safety Glasses

Pencil

Sanding Block

Step 1:

You are making the freezer drawer.  Attach the freezer sides to the freezer bottom. I just used wood glue and nailed into place.  Make sure the freezer bottom is flush with the front of the freezer sides.

Step 2:

Attach the freezer back by using wood glue and nails.

Step 3:

Attach the freezer front with glue and nails making sure that the front is flush with the sides.

Step 4:

In this step you are just making the handle for the freezer.  See picture below.

Step 5:

Attach the freezer handle to the front of the freezer drawer.  Glue into place and be sure to nail also.

Step 6:

This is the start of the veggie drawer.  Attach the back of the veggie drawer to the two sides.

Step 7:

Attach the veggie grate support with glue and nails. This is what you will place the peg board on.

Step 8:

Attach the front of the veggie drawer.  One it is secure, drill two small holes in the front.  You will run ribbon through these holes to create a pull for the drawer.

Step 9:

Place the peg board on to the veggie supports.  I just glued this on to the supports.

Step 10:

This step is the start of the fridge itself.  You can nail the frame together or use your Kreg Jig.

Step 11:

Make the handles for the fridge.  You will make two.

Step 12:

Attach the two fridge handles you just made to the fridge doors.  I used wood glue and nailed them into place for extra support.

Step 13:

This is just showing you the location of where the hinges will go.  You can chisel out where you will place the hinges.

Step 14:

Attach the refrigerator doors by using the hinges.

Step 15:

Attach the back of the fridge.

Step 16:

Slide the shelves into the fridge where you dadoed.

Step 17:

This is just showing you placing the drawers in.

Step 18:

The final product!

Once again, my kids love this piece!!!  I even caught my son playing with it.  Check out the pictures below.
