How to Make American Girl Diner Booths

How to Make American Girl Diner Booths

Part 4 of the American Girl Diner series is here!  This is one of the fun projects because it means the diner is finally starting to come together!  There are still several parts to come, but this is a big one to get out of the way. Originally, I was going to make this out of wood but before I did that I wanted to try to see if a ‘recycled’ craft could be done.  That way more people had materials on hand and it wouldn’t require tools.  Sure enough, it did and these booths are VERY sturdy!  Check out details in the video below and ask questions in the comments.

American Girl Diner Series:

Part 1: Paper Hats & Guest Check Printables

Part 2: Menu Printables

Part 3: Paper Food Tray Printables

Part 4: Diner Booths

Part 5: Diner Table

Materials Needed:

  1. 3 cardboard boxes (2-square, 1 rectangle)
  2. Scissors
  3. Vinyl – I had 1 yard of the blue and a half yard of the black.  I have leftovers.
  4. Cording *Optional
  5. Hot Glue
  6. E6000 Glue *A must
  7. Batting
  8. Foam board or cardboard

Tips-

  • The size boxes I used are 2- 7″x7″x1 3/4″ and 1- 7″x4 3/4″x1 3/4″
  • You can substitute the vinyl with Duct Tape sheets.  That will also eliminate the need to hot glue the vinyl on.
  • I say E6000 glue is a must because I don’t want your booths to fall apart.  It’s my strong glue of choice.  However, if you prefer another strong glue, go for it.  Just use a strong glue!
  • A substitute for the batting could be wash cloths.  I’ve used them in projects before and they give a similar cushy feel.
  • Don’t skip the 72 hours of dry time.  It defeats the purpose of using a strong glue. 😉

Watch & tell us which booth you like better!

I really liked that! Thanks for the video! I don’t know, I started with looking at the blue one and I liked that, but the pink one gave it a ‘flair’.

You should make a mini doll diner. I’m trying to make one but I could use a few tips. the food is made from air dry clay, and I painted a box the same colors as the big diner but the box had tape on it and when the paint dried on the tape spots it just peeled off. what do you suggest.

Wow! Your crafting is seriously impressive! The thing I like best is that I am not that crafty myself but I really feel like I could realistically make some of this stuff. Thank you for sharing! I do like the cording best, but I think it looks nice without it too.

I liked the one without the cording.

I like the first one without the cording. Great idea with readily available supplies. Very inexpensive, but sturdy. Way to go! I’d like to see you make ME’s TV console iPad sleeve as seen on americangirl playthings. It is cool.
