DIY American Girl Pop Tarts

These DIY American Girl Pop Tarts are so easy to do. This is a craft for all ages to enjoy. There are a few different flavors for the printables so you could even make them all and stick them in a grocery store scene! That’s a cute idea.

Materials Needed:

TIPS:

  • You can just tape the pop tart bag together, but hot glue gives it a more realistic look. Always be careful when using hot glue. You can give it a few seconds to cool down before you wipe a away the excess.
  • Puffy Paint usually only takes about four hours to dry, but I always recommend letting it dry over night. This ensures that it wont still be a little tacky and stick to anything or get smudged.

Watch and tell us your dolls favorite Pop Tart flavor!

Rudy, where do you get model magic from? I have looked in Michael’s and Walmart, but I can’t find it. Please respond. Thanks!

You can get it at Michaels. It is not in the clay section, but it’s in the Crayola section. Usually next to play doh and sand.

Soon after I met my wife, Jessie, she took me up to the attic in her parents house. There she showed me her American Girl dolls from when she was little. She told me she was saving them for her daughter. Soon enough we got married. When we had our first kid and it was a girl, she was overjoyed! She told me that now she could give her the dolls. On Molly’s 4th birthday, the doll Molly from the collection made an appearance. In fact, my daughter is named after that doll. Now Molly has the whole collection of my wife’s dolls and it keeps growing. It seems like Molly has every doll! We are always watching the videos from American Girl Ideas and making new stuff for her dolls. It seems like she is always at the craft store picking out any supplies she doesn’t have and walking up to the cashier and paying for them with her own money. You make Molly and my wife so happy. Jessie even got our son, Ben, into action figures, (the closest thing to dolls for boys, she told me). She is even trying to find dolls for our dog, Duchess. You really help keep our whole family happy, including me, who when Molly comes up to me with a smile on her face, holding up something she just made, (guided by one of your videos and her mom) or comes to me asking for help because “me and Mommy can’t figure it out” it just makes my day. You are a big part of our life and I really appreciate it! Thank you!

When you print the printables,is it paper.

    • Rudy
      February 27, 2016 at 7:53 am –

We use a heavy card stock so it is thicker than regular printer paper. If you do not have card stock, you can print on regular paper and glue it to the back of a cereal box (or somthing similar) to give it strength.

I have a question about printables (pop tarts boxes, Happy Meal box, milk carton, Popsicle box, etc). Did you use regular printer paper, or white card stock?

    • Rudy
      February 22, 2016 at 7:41 pm –

For most printables we use a heavy card stock. That way they are not flimsy and they last longer.

ps..for those of you wanting nail polish, i used round beads and tiny painted dowel rods glued into the tops of them for nail polish.

    February 18, 2016 at 7:10 pm –

I notice you keep calling Tulip t-shirt paint “puffy paint”. This is incorrect. “Puffy paint” was the t-shirt paint you would use w/ a blow dryer under the fabric so that the paint would “puff” out. What you are using is “slick” t-shirt paint.

    Thank you.

    • Rudy
      February 18, 2016 at 8:25 pm –

Technically I should be calling it dimensional paint. But everything I was using is a “puffy” or “dimensional” paint because of the thickness. T-shirt Paint is flat.
