It’s nice to beef up the wardrobe of your 18″ dolls.  But sometimes adding outfits can be costly.  That’s why it’s nice to do a few DIY projects to fill in what is missing in your dolls closet.  My dolls were missing swimsuits for those hot days.  And if they are going to sit by me at the pool, they need to look the part!  In this post you will learn just how easy it is to make your own American Girl Doll Swimsuit!

Materials Needed:

Scissors

1 Long sock

Step 1:

Take your long sock and place it on top of your American Girl Doll.  Put the toe of the sock where the crotch will be and place your finger at the neckline.  This is where you will cut a small semi oval on the right of where your finger is.

Step 2:

You now need to cut the neck straps for the bathing suit.  I used the rest of the length of the sock.  Cut straight down from the top and then curve as you get to the neck cutout you made in the previous step.

Step 3:

Unfold the sock so it looks like the picture below.  Cut a straight line down to the neck cutout.  Your straps are made!

Step 4:

Take your scissors and make two small cutouts on the bottom of the sock.  These holes are for the legs to go through.  Make sure you cut them small, because you can always stretch them out or make them bigger.  It’s better to be too small then too big.  You don’t want to make a thong!

Step 5:

Your swimsuit is done!  Just tie the straps around her neck and she is ready for some fun in the sun.
