American Girl Seaside Diner

American Girl Seaside Diner

Maryellen’s Seaside Diner is simply adorable!  For those of you who haven’t seen it in person, it is AMAZING!  At least we think so.  I have seen a lot of negative comments about it when pictures were leaked and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  My honest opinion is in the review below.  I do not think that this set is cheap or poor quality.  I do wish some of the items were a bit different like the cheeseburger, pancakes with eggs, and a payphone.  But at the end of the day, it gets a lot of play and there are so many things we can do with it!  Plus, you know us, we are going to craft on and add to it! I really like this American Girl Seaside Diner!

**A side by side review of the OG diner and the AG diner is coming soon, so stay tuned.  I think that will help a lot of people choose between the two once they see them together in a video comparison format.

**Update** Sadly my Seaside Diner did not come with the list of items included in the set so I thought the *placemats* were actually souvenir postcards. Whoops! Everyone makes mistakes but I do agree that they are indeed placements! But postcards from a diner is still a good idea right? Also, I still stand by my review that this set should have come with more paper hats. We have been to several diners where they give out paper hats as souvenirs! It was fun for us and it will be fun for the dolls too! I hope you still enjoy despite my mistake!

Did you make a printable for the placemats? I have been wanting to make some for my Doll Diner I am almost finished with. I just got Maryellen for my birthday on Thursday, and would love to have a “Seaside Diner” for her 🙂

Oh I forgot to add that the least I liked were those stickers. From the first time I saw the stock photo, I didn’t like them and I thought they came painted to the wall and said to myself “Nope, don’t like that at all” luckily, they don’t come permanently attached.

If I had the seaside diner, I wouldn’t use the stickers at all, but google some poster images from the 50’s diners and use those instead.

Thanks so much for the review. I have the OG diner and am happy it. Of course, I think the AG one can have a bigger play value cause it has the kitchen part. I have seen kids use the OG kitchen or even the Journey Girls kitchen to complete the OG diner. The realism is way much better in the AG dinner and the folding part is great! But again, for me and my budget, the OG is much better priced.

What I intend to do is repaint the OG diner. I have seen some great ideas on repainting it to make it more realistic.

Thanks for the great review! I really like the set but find it a little odd that there is no silverware for the pancakes.

I find that odd too. Of course a diner needs utensils!

Great review and it confirmed my decision to buy the OG diner and do a repaint . As much as I love the Seaside Diner the OG Diner is a better fit to the budget. Thanks again Rudy for all the little extras to make , making both Diners extra special !

I might have to buy it instead of making it! Some of the stuff looks to hard to make, like the bar stools. I might also have to get maryellen, shes really cute!

Hi. Just wondering what the size is for the pancakes. Trying to make food and I can never get the right ratio. Would u please measure the pancake size for me? Thanks! We have made a schoolhouse and bakery with your dimensions and they are almost finished-Thanks for all your hard work!

Great review! Thanks. I can’t wait to see all of your additions to craft. My goal is to try some of them for Mini Maryellen. I’m looking forward to the comparison video with the OG diner.

Because I love this time frame I have been waiting on AG to make a diner!! I have to say after seeing pictures the biggest disappointment was the stickers! OG was able to put a phone in their set for a lower price – so I think AG really should have had such an important piece.
The clock is the same one that they had in the mini doll diner sets that are retired. I am going to see if size wise I can use it instead of the sticker. On ebay you can still buy pieces to the mini sets so if that works it might be a solution to that sticker.
I was also thinking that maybe I could make some felt school banners instead of the stickers.
