American Girl Lamp

American Girl Lamp Tutorial

Right now I am in the process of filling up the rooms for my daughter’s American Girl Dollhouse.  I want to give it as many things as you would find in a normal home without having to buy everything brand new at the crazy expensive prices.  Most of my projects for this journey use materials I already have on-hand.  Keep in mind, you can substitute out some materials, and use your own creative ideas!  In this tutorial, I am making an American Girl Lamp.  I put a twist on it and decided I wanted it hanging from the ceiling for a more dramatic look.  I love it!

Materials Needed:

Play Doh Lid

Spray Paint Can Lid

Small chain (I used one of my broken necklaces)

Tape

Scissors

1 Cup Hook

Velcro (I used picture hanging Velcro)

1 Button

Small piece of ribbon

Step 1:

Take the Play Doh lid and the spray paint lid and cut a hole in the center.  I used a drill because my husband already had it out, but I’m sure you can use scissors.

Step 2:

Take the piece of ribbons and tie a knot through one of the loops on the chain.  See picture below.  Once you tie the knot, pull it through the Play Doh lid.  Cut the ribbon so it’s not hanging down with the chain.  Tape the ribbon to the bottom part of the Play Doh lid so you won’t see it when hung.

Step 3:

Screw in your cup hook where you want to drape the chain.  I placed mine over the American Girl Doll Bed so my doll can read in bed.  Once your hook is in place, figure out how long you need the chain to be and cut the excess off.

Step 4:

Just like in Step 2, get a piece of ribbon and tie a knot at the end of the chain.  Pull the ribbon through the spray paint lid.  Place a button through the lid to keep the ribbon from slipping through the spray paint lid.  Tie another knot.  Your spray paint lid should be secure now.

Step 5:

Take the Velcro and attach one piece to the bottom of the Play Doh lid, and the other part on the ceiling where you want to hang the end of the lamp.  Now stick the Play Doh lid on the ceiling.

Step 4:

All that’s left is to drape the remainder of the American Girl Doll lamp through the cup hook and over the bed!

Hi Rudy, just asking… How did you get the ceiling and window for your America girl doll room? They look so real! I love your videos and I watch them everyday!
