I am preparing a gymnastics series for your American Girl Gymnast!  My daughter loves gymnastics and has been wanting some pieces for her doll to play with.  Before you can play on anything, you must look the part.  That’s why part 1 of this series is making your doll a leotard.  It’s very simple and requires no sewing.

Stay tuned for the next part in the Gymnastics Series!

*There is a video at the end of this post to guide you*

Materials Needed:

Scissors
1 Pair of tights (stockings)
*I used stockings because the material is more similar to a real leotard than a sock would be.  However, you can substitute a sock.
Stick on jewels (optional)

Step 1:

Take your tights and place the toe end at the crotch of your doll and measure up her body.  Place your finger at her neck and then give 1-2 more inches before cutting straight across.

Step 2:

Cut two SMALL holes for the legs to go through.  Cut these holes as small as you can.  They will stretch to the right size, don’t worry about them not being big enough.

Step 3:

Determine where you need to cut the holes for the arms.  Again, make these holes as SMALL as you can.  They will stretch out.  You need to leave 1-2 inches above the arm holes as shown in picture below.  Otherwise, the straps might break.

Step 4:

This is where you can place the leotard on your doll and dress it up with rhinestones if desired.

great idea for the leotard! What size tights did you use? (what size would you recommend?)
